UCB Office Open on Wednesdays

We are open on Wednesdays at the DSBVI in Salt Lake City. If you need to check to be certain someone is there before you make your travel plans, please call 801-520-3766 and speak with Donni. She can sell you cab coupons, the UCB t-shirts, screwdriver/hammers, 20/20 pens, signature guides, and the braille measuring spoons and cups. You can pay your membership at the office and make reservations for the activities. These purchases can also be made by calling Tina at 801 245-9264 to pay by credit card.

October Ceramics Class Schedule

This class is open to any blind or visually impaired person in the state of Utah and is currently being held on Wednesdays at the Utah State Division of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 250 N 1950 W, Salt Lake City, in room 301 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Classes are available 40 weeks of the year. The class will be taking a break in the month of November and December, at the discretion of the instructor.

The attendees of this program only pay the cost of the materials needed to complete the projects they choose to make and a $2 per month breakage fee. We have obtained Grants to pay for the cost of the instructor.

For Users of Dog Guides -Greatest Paws on Earth

Greatest Paws on Earth is an independent group of people interested in guide dogs and issues concerning them. They meet each month on the 3rd Thursday via conference call to talk about a different topic in which dog guide users may be interested. Our next meeting will be on October 18. Becoming A Healthier You! Health Fair

Saturday, October 20, 9:00am-3:00pm

The UCB will be hosting a health fair from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at DSVBI, 250 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City. We will be showing some of the accessible medical products such as blood pressure cuffs, prescription readers, and much more. We will also be holding classes and demonstrating balance exercises, health care, and different descriptive workouts.
We will have discussions on products such as smart watches, smart phones, google home and echo, and how they can help monitor daily activity. Other topics will include gene therapy, eye care, disaster preparedness, and nutrition. We will be sharing a lot of information and be giving everyone as much hands-on experience as we can with things like audio medical equipment, talking prescription readers, products to make the home safer, and much more. There will also have information on a wide variety of topics such as non-24, emergency preparedness, and ways we can work out as blind or visually impaired people.
There will be drawings, door prizes, and lunch will be provided at a cost of $2.00 per person, payable at the door. Reservations are required no later than October 18th. Annual UCB Christmas Party

Saturday, December 1, 10:30am-1:30pm

Our annual Christmas Party is going to be on Saturday, December 1st from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It will be held at DSBVI at 250 N. 1950 W., Salt Lake City. It is going to be a brunch meal of scrambled eggs, ham, hashbrowns, fruit, and pastries. We will plan on eating about 11:00 a.m., with entertainment scheduled at noon. There will be gifts for the children, a visit from Santa, and treats for all. There will also be a bake sale and a gift boutique for people to do some shopping before the meal and after the entertainment. I am planning on having an activity for the children during the entertainment so that we can all enjoy. In order to have enough food for all, we need to know if you are coming. We must have your reservations by no later than November 26th. Adult meals are $6.00 each, and children ages 3-11 are $3.00 each. Children younger than 3 can eat for free. Please fill out your registration form (found at the end of The Flier) and get it back to us on time. People who do not reserve a meal WILL NOT BE FED. Hope to see you there for fun, food, and music.
