HAM Radio Operator Classes

The class will prepare participants to be amateur radio operators who can do things like warning officials of fire danger, sending messages in times of disaster, and talking with other ham operators all over the world. Class members will learn what they need to know in order to take the test that, if passed, will give them their amateur radio operator license. The class will be taught by Richard Morris, a sighted instructor, with assistance from Linda Reeder, a blind ham operator. Classes will be held on Tuesday nights at the DSBVI building, 250 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City. Questions? Call Sandy Ruconich; land line: 801-461-0265; cell: 801-599-1958.

Deaf/Blind Conference

Friday, September 21, 2018 at DSBVI

Deafblind Awareness day: Experience Our World will be held on September 21, 2018 at DSBVI.

1. We have hired Willie B's Cafe' to barbeque and cater hamburgers and hotdogs loaded with the dressings. (What a great way to give back to our blind community) Pepsi Cola is donating pepsi products and bottled water and Rocky Mountain Pie Company will be donating their delicious pies! Cookies/chips will also be included!

2. There will be awesome speakers representing our deafblind community, and Mrs. Jeanette Herbert will be sending her encouraging message for us all! Our main discussion will be 'transition / transitioning'. What can our speakers suggest to many deafblind children's parents, agencies' staff and deafblind individuals to make our progressive transitions be on a right path.

3. During our breakout session there will be some exhibitors demonstrating how deafblind individuals are navigating with their guide dog with or a white cane. There will be a technology demonstration of hearing barriers and a visual goggle stimulation. Cordie Weed will be demonstrating tactile ability to knit / crochet / quilting. Technology assistance will be offer as well.

4. We have received attendance commitment from USDB, DSBVI staff/students, Sanderson staff/students, DWS/USOR staff, Moran, UTA, Disability Law Center, Rocky Mountain ADA Center, and many more!!!

5. We have tested DSBVI listening devices and they are in a great working order for us to use!

6. 2018 Resource Manual is available in print or electronic

7. Great door prize drawings. Don't miss this!

8. Recognition Awards. Definitely do not miss this!

9. Great news... This year we will be waiving all SSPs registration fee IF they are working with their client at our event. The registration fee will be $10. This will cover the costs of luncheon, waived registration fees and materials.

Lastly, this event is a 'one stop shop' to help many deafblind children's parents, agencies' staff including deafblind individuals to meet / network / collaborate for all to reach their goals! Any question contact Ramona Rice at 801-430-8833 or rricetx@gmail.com
